From an early age, I was taught that war is hell – at best, and arguably, a necessary evil. None of my life experiences has caused me to change this perspective. I was raised by an honorable and highly-respected member of the military intelligence community and we share this perspective. I count among my friends, family and professional associates many other members of the military and intelligence communities; and unless I miss my guess, we too share this perspective: war is hell.

Hollywood and media at times tempt us to glorify war; governments and politicians woo us with the idea of a necessary war. Still no one or no thing has caused me to change my mind: war is hell. Thus, you might rightly suppose that when I heard our U.S. headline, Shock and Awe, obviously offered as an attempt to put a positive spin on war, I was disgusted. This sentiment, fomenting in me for several years, was the driving force behind the short story you see reproduced in the video below.
